Dawn Habisreitinger, who was a beading friend of mine, was killed on
19th December, in a motorcycle accident. She was 30 years old and a single mum of two sons.
Dawn made jewelry and lampwork beads.
I remember her most for her trials during Hurricane Katrina. Dawn and her boys lived in Slidell, Louisiana and during the evacuation she kept all of us
in an Ebay group posted on her whereabouts by stopping in libraries and getting on the Internet.
She lost just about everything in the house. Basically, she drove around with her
two boys and a dog and I don’t recall where she stayed while her home was being rebuilt.
It was a few hours away from Slidell.
I remember seeing pictures of the inside of the house with all the walls down to the studs.
Dawn did a lot of the renovation herself
and was so proud of it.
She was just getting back in the swing of managing her website, shows, Etsy Shop and
Ebay Store, enough so that she was making a living with her beads and jewelry.
It is such a shame to have lost a talented artist.
I feel so badly for her sons and family.
Her 'Beading Friends' all got together and started this fund for her sons, to help raise money for them.
